One of the missions of the STAR Center is to educate future professionals in ways they can integrate inclusion and modified physical activities into their professional practices. We provide volunteer experiences for students of any major, so they have hands on experiences with individuals with disabilities. We work with professors to give students clinical application to their course material. Lastly, students have the opportunity to collaborate with our programs for projects and research opportunities. On this page we highlight student involvement and collaboration with STAR as part of their educational experience.
Graduate Student advocates for Frame Running
Mandi Lucas came to UW-L as a graduate student in Adapted Physical Education. During a guest lecture presentation by the STAR Association early in her studies, she became introduced to the adaptive piece of equipment called a Frame Runner. She recognized the opportunities a frame runner allows for a diverse group of individuals. Mandi selected the frame runner for her capstone project for her masters degree. After researching Frame Runners, the STAR Center, who has one of only 5 certified frame running coaches in the US, helped Mandi to apply her research by assisting her in fitting a frame and introducing a young boy to frame running.
