The STAR Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center is different than other gyms.
The conditioning and strengthening equipment has been specifically selected to address the needs of those with disabilities and/or challenges to physical activity.

- Equipment with high contrast controls and tactile interfaces for those with visual impairments.
- Knobs that are easily managed by arthritic hands or those with poor grip strength.
- Exercise equipment that can be adjusted to accommodate leg length inequality or joints that don’t move equally.
- Step through design and seats that rotate to ease transitions onto equipment.
- Ultra slow start up speeds and low resistance options.
- Weight machines that are counterbalances so they can be adjusted with one hand and are accessible to those who use a wheelchair.
- Additional assistive devices to aid in leg stability or grasp for those with residuals of trauma or neurological conditions.
50% of the equipment can be utilized from a wheelchair and does not require transfers.
The STAR Center facility also houses a variety of traditional aerobic and strengthening equipment for those who do not require assistance or accommodations so caretakers and family members can invest in their personal health.
The Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center is available whenever the Center is open. Three levels of assistance are available through out the day to meet your individual needs.

Independent Workout
- Workout is unsupervised and no training assistance is available during these hours in the gym.
Assistance Available
- Staff are on-site and accessible for questions or guidance if needed. But they are not present in the workout area for one-on-one assistance.
Strength Coach Available
- During ‘Strength Coach Available’ hours, a certified coach is present in the workout area and available for one-on-one guidance, support, and feedback.
The Fresh STARt: Introduction to the STAR Center class will teach you how to properly use each piece of equipment and develop a personalized exercise routine.
