Learning how to get the most out of the STAR Center

What is Fresh STARt: Introduction to Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center?

This program is designed to welcome and orient members to the STAR Center Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center and STAR programs.  During the program you will be introduced to how to properly use all the equipment in the Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center. You will learn how to adjust the fit and settings to your individual needs. 

Learn to get the most out of each piece of equipment

You will have the chance to explore the different exercise programs options that are available on each piece of equipment. Are you interested in endurance? Strength? Speed? We will show you how to each piece of equipment can help you reach your goal. Instruction on proper technique to assure you are not injured will be emphasized. By the end of the session you will be confident in using all the equipment  the Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center has to offer.

Interested in Individual workouts, but don’t know where to start?

The Strength and Conditioning Center is designed for universal accessibility, meaning that most individuals can use the equipment independently. Through the course of the program you will not only get a good strength and conditioning workout, you will also have developed a complete individual workout plan. This plan can be used for independent workouts whenever the STAR Center is open. No matter what your schedule, you will have access to a great workout.

The Star staff will get to know you and your personal goals, interests and challenges. With their guidance, you will have ample opportunity to explore our other programs that can enhance your fitness journey.

Who can participate in Fresh STARt: Introduction to the Adaptive Strength and Conditioning Center?

  • Individuals 16+
  • Those are interested in coming to open gym times and working out independently
  • Those who desire individual instruction on proper fitting, use of equipment and proper technique
  • Individuals may ambulate independently, or use assistive devices, or wheelchairs

When is this program offered?

This program is offered throughout the year

Essential Eligibilty Criteria
  • Ages 16+, co-ed
  • Designed for all abilities
  • Participants must be able to follow directions from the lead facilitator. 
    • If participants need assistance with following directions, a support staff, mentor, or care partner must attend and assist the individual at the program. 
    •  If you need assistance finding support, please contact STAR. We may have 1:1 mentors available. 
  • Participants will be held to the STAR Center Code of Conduct.

What to expect at Fresh STARt: Introduction to the STAR Center?

Members will learn about the variety of workout equipment available at the center. You will walk through basic usage and safety of the equipment. Once you have covered all of the equipment available, a STAR Center Staff Member will assess your knowledge to ensure you are ready to safely use the space independently.
