Shooting STARS: Fit Kids
What is Shooting STARS: Fit Kids?
This program is a great way for youth grade 1-5 to develop early sports skills through games and play. During the sessions flexibility, balance, core strength, cardio endurance, arm and leg strength and coordination are developed through multiple fun focused activities. While they are having fun, we know that they are building the skills for future enjoyment in sports and recreation. We introduce sports skills in easy steps.
Meeting the child at their skill level
Each child is meet at their level of skill. We spend time to assure they understand how to do the skill, giving necessary support and cues so they can be successful. Skills are broken down into easy steps when needed. Modifications are made to accommodate individual challenges and abilities. We play modified sport games using their new skills. Through play participants work on developing listening skills, following instructions, and working as a team. All skills necessary to be successful in sports and recreation as well as school.
“I can do it” success
This program is enhanced by university students and volunteers. The students give the individual and small group support needed by many children to learn new skills. The games and sports are low key and non competitive. The program is designed so that participant experience success. We aim to develop a “I can do it” experience to encourage a future active life.
