Adaptive Football
What is Adaptive Football?
Are you the type who loves the hustle, the sweat, and the excitement of football? Want to learn the skills of basketball in an inclusive and adaptable environment? Join us in the spring to learn and play football! This program is designed for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities who are 12+. Participants in this program will work on developing gross motor and coordination through sport skills, drills, and games. Individuals will learn fundamental sport skills and teamwork skills while enhancing their balance, strength, endurance, locomotor, and coordination.
Who can participate in the Adaptive Football program?
Individuals 12+ are able to participate in this program. Anyone who has a mobility or cognitive challenge that makes participation in traditional programming difficult. This program is co-ed.

Individuals with physical disabilities can also participate if desired. Individuals may ambulate independently, or use assistive devices, or wheelchairs.
Eligibility and Criteria:
- 12+, co-ed
- Designed for individuals with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities
- Participants must be able to follow directions from the lead facilitator.
- If participants need assistance with following directions, a support staff must attend and assist the individual at the program. If you need assistance finding support, please contact STAR. We may have 1:1 mentors available.
- Participants will be held to the STAR Center Code of Conduct.

What to expect at Adaptive Football?
At program, participants will develop skills related to the sport which may include passing, catching, game plays, balance, coordination, endurance, teamwork, and game rules.
Participants will join in a group warm up to start off the program. The coach will provide drills and game play to enhance skills within the specified sport. This is a fun and welcoming environment where all are provided the opportunity to participate. Adaptations and modifications are available.
What other sports can I play through the adaptive sports program?
The STAR Center offers kickball in the summer, soccer in the fall; basketball, handball, and floor hockey in the winter, and flag football in the spring. Individuals may also be interested in STAR’s inclusive programming. We currently offer tennis, pickleball, badminton, track and field, kayaking, boccia, and chair one fitness/drummercise.
