Brain & Body Fitness
What is Brain & Body Fitness?
Brain & Body Fitness is designed specifically for people living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementias to maintain current functioning and increase socialization. Brain & Body occurs in a small group setting completing exercises that focus on brain and body health to improve physical fitness and mood. An early intervention for dementia diagnosis, this class is a non-threatening way to remain active in the community. Brain & Body Fitness has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia. The exercise program is safe, effective and a fun, social program taught by trained facilitators.
Who can participate in Brain & Body Fitness?
Any adult with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementia. To participate in the Brain & Body Fitness group exercise program participants must be able to perform simple exercises, be able to follow verbal directions, and participate in conversation.
What to bring:
- Water bottle
- Sweat towel
- Comfortable clothing
- Shoes suitable for activity
- Care partners are welcome to attend and participate with you, at no extra cost
The STAR Center provides all equipment necessary for each program.
COVID-19 disclaimer
The STAR Association follows CDC, State and County Health Department recommendations for COVID Mitigation. We recommend that all who are eligible to get a vaccine to do so. Masks, social distancing and proper hand washing will be required at all STAR programs.
