This program is co-ed. \n\nSpina bifida\nSpinal cord injury\nCerebral palsy\nCongenital limb issues\nAmputations\nLeg length discrepancy\nShort stature\nMuscular dystrophy\nParkinson’s disease\nMultiple sclerosis\nMotor dyspraxia\nLimited range of motion\nBalance issues\nPost stroke\nBlind and visual impairment\n\nIndividuals may ambulate independently or use assistive devices or wheelchairs. \nScholarships are available. No one will be denied participation due to financial concerns. \nVeterans with a disability are able to participate in STAR programs for free. \nWhat can I expect from the wheelchair tennis tournament?\nThe STAR Center will be having their first tennis tournaments in the summer of 2022\, made possible through a grant from USTA. This is a novice tennis tournament- no experience is necessary. A perfect introduction to competitive tennis in a relaxed and fun format. This tournament is specifically designed for those who have never played competitive tennis. This event is open to athletes with any physical impairment that may inhibit them from playing the traditional game of tennis; you do not need to be a community wheelchair user to compete at this tournament. All participants will receive a t-shirt and lunch. \nWhat to bring:\n\nDress to move\nWater bottle\nBike gloves (if you have them)\nTennis racquet (if you have one)\nSport wheelchair (if you have one)\nA parent or care partner is welcome to attend.\n\nThe STAR Center provides all equipment necessary for each program. \nCOVID-19 disclaimer\nThe STAR Association follows CDC\, State and County Health Department recommendations for COVID Mitigation. SUMMARY:Move United Wheelchair Football Coaches Clinic
DESCRIPTION:Who can participate:\nAnyone who is interested in becoming a coach and/or expanding their knowledge on the sport of wheelchair football. Professionals who attend this training may include adaptive physical education teachers\, therapeutic recreation professionals\, individuals working at Move United affiliate locations\, VA employees\, etc. \nClinic schedule:\nJune 11 @ 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. (lunch provided) \nJune 12 @ 8 a.m. – noon \nWhat can I expect from the Move United training?\nThe STAR Center will be hosting one of three Move United Wheelchair Football Clinics in the country. Come and learn from national leaders in the sport of wheelchair football. Individuals who attend will learn about the sport of wheelchair football and will be provided with an overview of the USA Wheelchair Football League Athlete Development Model. Trainees will practice what they learned through hands-on drills and supervised student instruction time. No direct experience is necessary\, but some knowledge about the game of football will be helpful.
