DESCRIPTION:What is Brain & Body Fitness?\nBrain & Body Fitness is designed specifically for people living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementias to maintain current functioning and increase socialization. Brain & Body occurs in a small group setting completing exercises that focus on brain and body health to improve physical fitness and mood. An early intervention for dementia diagnosis\, this class is a non-threatening way to remain active in the community. Brain & Body Fitness has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia. The exercise program is safe\, effective and a fun\, social program taught by trained facilitators. \nWho can participate in Brain & Body Fitness?\nAny adult with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementia. Brain & Body occurs in a small group setting completing exercises that focus on brain and body health to improve physical fitness and mood. An early intervention for dementia diagnosis\, this class is a non-threatening way to remain active in the community. Brain & Body Fitness has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia. DESCRIPTION:Who can participate:\nAnyone\, youth and adult\, who has a mobility challenge. This program is co-ed. \n\nSpina bifida\nSpinal cord injury\nCerebral palsy\nCongenital limb issues\nAmputations\nLeg length discrepancy\nShort stature\nMuscular dystrophy\nParkinson’s disease\nMultiple sclerosis\nMotor dyspraxia\nLimited range of motion\nBalance issues\nPost stroke\nBlind and visual impairment\n\nIndividuals may ambulate independently or use assistive devices or wheelchairs. \nScholarships are available. No one will be denied participation due to financial concerns. \nWhat to bring:\n\nWater bottle\nComfortable clothing\nSports chair (if you have one)\nBike gloves (if you have them)\nLacrosse stick (if you have one)\nSun protection\nSunscreen and bug spray\nParent or care partner is welcome to attend\n\nThe STAR Center provides all equipment necessary for each program. \nCOVID-19 disclaimer\nThe STAR Association follows CDC\, State and County Health Department recommendations for COVID Mitigation. We recommend that all who are eligible to get a vaccine to do so. DESCRIPTION:Who can participate:\nCurrent grades K-5. Special consideration given to middle school students. Anyone who has a mobility or cognitive challenge that makes participation in traditional programming difficult. This program is co-ed. \n\nMotor dyspraxia\nSensory integration challenges\nBalance challenges\nMotor programming challenges\nDown Syndrome\nAutism Spectrum\nLearning disabilities\nCognitive impairments\nLow muscle tone\nOther congenital syndromes\n\nIndividuals with physical disabilities can also participate if desired. Individuals may ambulate independently\, or use assistive devices\, or wheelchairs. \nScholarships are available. No one will be denied participation due to financial concerns. \nWhat to bring:\n\nWater bottle\nComfortable clothes shoes for movement\nSun protection\nSun screen and bug spray\nParents\, respite care providers\, and care partners are welcome to attend\n\n1-1 mentors\nPlease contact the STAR Center if you will need a 1-1 mentor. We will do our best to find you a mentor\, but we can not guarantee at this time.
