DESCRIPTION:This program is open to individuals of all abilities 16+. This program is designed to welcome and orient new members to the STAR Center facility and programs. Participants will learn how to use STAR adaptive equipment and develop an initial exercise plan to use independently in the center. Participants will have the opportunity to ask specific questions about STAR group exercise programs in order to find the best fit for their abilities and goals. This program will provide more adaptations and seated exercises for participants with support from volunteers and staff members. \nWho can participate:\nAll individuals with Parkinson’s Disease regardless of age and disease progression. Modifications will be made for individuals as necessary. Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease looking to improve their tone\, rigidity\, and overall function. \nScholarships are available. DESCRIPTION:What is Brain & Body Fitness?\nBrain & Body Fitness is designed specifically for people living with mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementias to maintain current functioning and increase socialization. Brain & Body occurs in a small group setting completing exercises that focus on brain and body health to improve physical fitness and mood. An early intervention for dementia diagnosis\, this class is a non-threatening way to remain active in the community. Brain & Body Fitness has been shown to improve physical fitness and mood in people living with dementia. The exercise program is safe\, effective and a fun\, social program taught by trained facilitators. \nWho can participate in Brain & Body Fitness?\nAny adult with a diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) or early-stage dementia. SUMMARY:Fresh STARt: Introduction to the STAR Center
DESCRIPTION:This program is open to individuals of all abilities 16+. This program is designed to welcome and orient new members to the STAR Center facility and programs. Participants will learn how to use STAR adaptive equipment and develop an initial exercise plan to use independently in the center. Participants will have the opportunity to ask specific questions about STAR group exercise programs in order to find the best fit for their abilities and goals. Individuals will complete a comprehensive checklist to ensure understanding and competency of the equipment. \nWho can participate in Fresh STARt: Introduction to the STAR Center?\nIndividuals 16+ who are interested in coming to open gym times or working out independently. Individuals may ambulate independently\, or use assistive devices\, or wheelchairs. \nEligibility and Criteria: \n\nAges 16+\, co-ed\nDesigned for all abilities\nParticipants must be able to follow directions from the lead facilitator.\n\nIf participants need assistance with following directions\, a support staff\, mentor\, or care partner must attend and assist the individual at the program.\n If you need assistance finding support\, please contact STAR.
