DESCRIPTION:Meagan Blank\, Doctor of Physical Therapy student from UW-La Crosse\, will be running the Hixon 50 to raise money for the STAR Center. Meagan will be running with friends and colleagues who will also be collecting pledges in honor of STAR.\n\nThe seventh annual Hixon 50 includes a 5k\, 10k\, 25k\, and 50k through La Crosse’s Hixon Forest. We invite you to come and attend the races to cheer on those running in support of STAR. Please see times below. This program is co-ed. \n\nSpina bifida\nSpinal cord injury\nCerebral palsy\nCongenital limb issues\nAmputations\nLeg length discrepancy\nShort stature\nMuscular dystrophy\nParkinson’s disease\nMultiple sclerosis\nMotor dyspraxia\nLimited range of motion\nBalance issues\nPost stroke\nBlind and visual impairment\n\nIndividuals may ambulate independently or use assistive devices or wheelchairs. \nScholarships are available. No one will be denied participation due to financial concerns. \nVeterans with a disability are able to participate in STAR programs for free. \nWhat to bring:\n\nWater bottle\nComfortable clothing\nSports chair (if you have one)\nBike gloves (if you have them)\nParent or care partner is welcome to attend.\n\nThe STAR Center provides all equipment necessary for each program. \nCOVID-19 disclaimer\nThe STAR Association follows CDC\, State and County Health Department recommendations for COVID Mitigation. Anyone who has a mobility or cognitive challenge that makes participation in traditional programming difficult. This program is co-ed. \n\nMotor dyspraxia\nSensory integration challenges\nBalance challenges\nMotor programming challenges\nDown Syndrome\nAutism Spectrum\nLearning disabilities\nCognitive impairments\nLow muscle tone\nOther congenital syndromes\n\nIndividuals with physical disabilities can also participate if desired. Individuals may ambulate independently\, or use assistive devices\, or wheelchairs. \nScholarships are available. No one will be denied participation due to financial concerns. \nVeterans with a disability are able to participate in STAR programs for free. \nWhat to bring:\n\nWater bottle\nDress to move\nComfortable shoes for movement\nParents\, respite care providers\, and care partners are welcome to attend.\n\n1-1 mentors\nPlease contact the STAR Center if you will need a 1-1 mentor.
